SCSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival
The Santa Monica - Malibu Unified School District will host a SCSBOA Band and Orchestra Festival in Barnum Hall on the Santa Monica High School Campus on Thursday, March 4, 2010, and Friday, March 5, 2010. Thursday the 4th will be for Concert Bands, and Friday the 5th will be for Orchestras. This Festival will be adjudicated by the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA).
Reservations are currently being made for both Wednesday and Thursday. Register early to secure a position on our schedule!

| 1. Save our Music Program! Tue, Feb 9 at 7pm in the Samohi Cafeteria, PTSAMeeting - If you are concerned about the funding for the SMMUSD music program - you must come to this meeting! The SMMUSD Board of Education voted to place a School Funding Measure on the ballot that would help protect our high quality schools against severe funding cuts imposed by the State of California. What does this mean for Samohi? Come discuss the impact of this budget crisis on the Samohi arts programs, athletic teams, class sizes, librarians, nurses and more. If left unfunded, this budget crisis will have a dramatic impact on our high school for the 2010-11school year. This crisis is real and affects all students - please join us to be a part of the solution. (Spanish Translation Available). |
2. SCSBOA Festival at Samohi: We need many adult and student volunteers to help run the SCSBOA Band & Orchestra Festival Thu-Fri, Mar 4-5. We sell food and merchandise, need runners, man the gates, chaperone the Band Room. Students, please sign up with the Music Directors, and adults please contact Lynn Leavitt with your availability. |
| 3. Lost and Found: Personal items found on the buses, truck and band rooms are now in one pile in the locker room by the door to the band room. All items not claimed by the end of February will be donated to charity. |

Help support our band and show your school spirit! Great for gifts! * Winter Concert CD's Our Winter concert was certainly one to remember and your CD is waiting to be ordered! Please email Ellen Rennell ejrennell@earthlink.net with your order and have your child place the check in the Band box with the attached order form. CD's are $15 each * Band Buttons are on sale NOW! Year of graduation buttons, '10, '11, '12 and '13 are now available. We will be selling them at band meetings and concerts. The buttons are $1 each and 6 for $5. * Landmark Theatre tickets are $10 each (normally $12). Good any time at any Landmark Theatre around the country, and they don't expire! Great gift idea.
