Solo and Ensemble Performances

All music students are strongly encouraged to prepare solos and small ensembles for performances. Performances can and should happen throughout the year.

During the second semester, SCSBOA (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association) hosts numerous district and regional solo and ensemble festivals. These festivals are similar to the SCSBOA band and orchestra festivals, except that they are designed to specifically evaluate student solos and small ensembles.

Students receive ratings and evaluations - and often individualized feedback from the adjudicators. Command performances are offered to a select few students who give exceptional performances. Students are free to attend any solo and ensemble festival - and are especially encouraged to participate in the SCSBOA Solo and Ensemble festival hosted by Santa Monica High School.
