2019 Vikings Football Games

This year’s home football games are scheduled for 7 pm on the following dates:

• Friday, August 30, vs. Compton HS
• Friday, September 6, vs. West HS
• Friday, September 27, vs. Godinez HS
• Friday, October 4, vs. Culver City (Homecoming)
• Friday, October 18, vs. Lawndale (Senior/Exhibition/8th Grade Night)

The Viking Marching Band plays pep songs in the stands at all Samohi home games, which are played at SMC’s Corsair Field at 16th Street and Pearl. The band does NOT travel to away games. We encourage you to attend to support our Vikings and enjoy LIVE MUSIC by the Viking Marching Band!

Tickets are usually under $10, cash-only at the entrance, which is on 16th Street. (Marching band students do NOT pay an entry fee, but you may want to give them money for food at halftime.)

The band does NOT perform at halftime during football games — except once each season, on Senior Night/Exhibition Night/8th Grade Night, which is happening this year on Friday, October 18, 2019. They just kick off each game with the National Anthem, and then sit in the stands and play pep songs!

On the night of a home game, marching band members should wear their football/retro shirts along with walking shorts, khakis, or jeans, and report to the JAMS lawn across from SMC on Pearl St. for warmup, usually at around 5:30-5:45 pm. They should also wear or bring their jackets, as the evenings can get cooler. Make sure your student’s jacket is labeled with their name!

Once again, Friday, October 18, is the only night that the band will dress in full uniform and perform their field show, “The Bard,” at SMC’s Corsair Field at halftime. This is a great time to invite family and friends to see the show, as most comps are quite far away. (Read more about comps here.)

This is also the night when we recognize our seniors with medals, and when this year’s 8th graders (next year’s potential marchers!) can come see the show.
